Jazikidi means “Jungle” in the indigenous Huitoto language, and thus this documentary offers the opportunity to learn and make a reflection about the Amazon Rainforest region and its importance to this planet. The documentary is a breathtaking journey along the Amazon River that travels through Colombia, Peru and Brazil and through the denominated “Lung of the World.”

“Jazikidi” shows through historical and scientific research, the origins of the Amazon River and Rainforest. This Rainforest jungle which plays such a critical role in our planets ecosystem contains one fifth (20%) of all pluvial water in the world, and his home to many endemic species and medicinal plants.

“Jazikidi” presents the wealth of the biodiversity of this part of South America, the historical exploitation of its resources, the Colonization process, as well as the present dangers that this vital region is battling.

The film offers rich images of the indigenous communities and their customs (work, rituals, dances, feeding, and social organization) landscapes, rivers,

fauna and flora. And in depth interviews of the native peoples of this region about the effects that change has had upon them.

Along with the film screening, the “Art and Culture Workshop” will be having a Cultural Expo at the Yost Theater, prior to the film, between4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Taller Arte y Cultura invita a la Premiere del documental Jazikidi: un recorrido por el Amazonas.

?Jazikidi es un recorrido por el denominado “pulmón del mundo”. A través de este documental transitamos por paisajes exóticos, el rÃo nos lleva por la exuberante selva, desde la Amazonia colombiana, peruana y brasilera hasta las cataratas de Iguazú.. La magia de la Amazonia también se vive en las culturas que en ella habitan, sus costumbres: formas de vida, de trabajo, de producción, rituales, danzas, alimentación, organización social.??

Jazikidi da a conocer la riqueza de la biodiversidad de esta parte de América del Sur, la historia de la explotación de sus recursos y el proceso colonizador, asà como también, muestra los peligros en el que se encuentra esta región vital para el planeta. Con un amplio cubrimiento visual y periodÃstico y una asesorÃa académica de alto nivel, se destaca el valor que alberga esta región.

El documental se complementa con un taller por medio del cual los asistentes lograrán adentrarse a la región amazónica y se motiven a hacer parte de un viaje pedagógico mediante el cual, logren aprender y entrar en contacto con las comunidades y el entorno, visitar resguardos indÃgenas y apreciar, por medio de un viaje ecoturÃstico, la exhuberancia de la Amazonia; esta iniciativa contribuirá a que los participantes tomen conciencia sobre la protección del medio ambiente, en especial de la región amazónica tan importante para el futuro del planeta.

Taller Arte y Cultura es una entidad no gubernamental, sin ánimo de lucro y con sedes en Bogotá (Colombia) y Los Angeles (USA), dedicada a la investigación, difusión y educación del arte y la cultura latinoamericana. Desde 1990, el Taller ha coordinado actividades artÃsticas y culturales y producciones de videos musicales y documentales relacionados con temáticas de América Latina.
