Back Bay rivals to meet

Newport Harbor High and Corona del Mar go at it again in boys’ water polo.

This marks the third time these two have played against each other this season.

But this time it is for the Battle of the Bay, which is today at CdM at 6 p.m.

The first two meetings have gone to the Sailors (14-5), ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

No. 8 CdM (12-8) has fallen behind early in both meetings. Newport Harbor beat CdM, 12-5, at the Southern California Tournament on Oct. 11 and wound up placing fifth at Irvine High.

At the South Coast Tournament at Newport Harbor, the Sailors won, 10-6, earning them fifth place on Sept. 27.

Newport Harbor won last year’s Battle of the Bay, 14-9.

This Back Bay rivalry is so big that these two teams aren’t competing at the elite North-South Challenge in Atherton this weekend.
