Anae named top goalie at recent tournament

Tumua Anae, a Corona del Mar High product who is a junior women’s water polo standout at USC, was named Most Valuable Goalkeeper at the Speedo Top 40 tournament completed Sunday at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.

Anae helped lead Shining Star to an 11-6 win over Kapow in the title game by anchoring the defense in the four-team tournament.

Teams were comprised of the nation’s best players, as selected by the USA Water Polo national team coaching staff.

Corona del Mar senior Kate Baldoni shared time in goal for Hot Lava, which finished third. Baldoni was first-team All-CIF Southern Section and the Newport-Mesa Co-Player of the Year as a junior. She was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament while leading the U.S. junior national team to the title at the Global Championships in August.
