On Monday, 144 golfers will tee off in the 11th annual Newport Irvine Golf Challenge at the Newport Beach Country Club. The event is the club’s annual fundraiser with a goal of $40,000 designated for Olive Crest Homes for abused children, the Boy Scouts, the Snowball Express — an organization that provides trips to Disneyland for the children of fallen military members — and the YMCA.

The day’s program will feature 18 holes of golf, lunch, live and silent auctions plus a banquet dinner. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. for a fee of $275 per golfer. Following the completion of play, cocktails and dinner will be served, starting at 5 p.m.

Players may choose from two different flights: The first will be foursomes in a scramble format competing for trophies and prizes. The second will be foursomes of Rotarians competing for the Burnham Cup, a trophy, plus a $2,000 college scholarship. Keith Burnham was a prominent Rotarian who was the district governor when the Newport Irvine Club was formed.

The menu features your choice of specially prepared menu selections with live entertainment by the Jeff Jarvis Jazz Ensemble, and a silent auction and door prizes that include a round-trip to Hawaii via Hawaiian Airlines with accommodations at the beautiful “W” Hotel on the beach at Waikiki, a special Las Vegas getaway on Southwest Airlines featuring the Jockey Club in Las Vegas, and special dinner packages.

Seating is limited to 50 guests according to Sidman. Tickets at $200 each can be purchased at www.jacquelinesidmanhealthfoundation.org/events.htmor by calling (949) 251-9550.

WORTH REPEATING

Thought for the Day as provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council… “Elections belong to the people. It is their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”
