The Owl Man has arrived

Flying owls, hawks, and falcons have been invading the streets of Huntington Beach...and The Owl Man is to blame!

Ken “The Owl Man” Miknuk remembers the time in his life when his fascination with Birds of Prey began. He was 9 years old, and for him, no joy was greater than watching hawks, falcons and owls fly, hunt and raise their young. Today, he beams his enthusiasm for these beautiful creatures whenever he holds a class or presentation.

At the age of 16, Ken received his State and Federal Falconer’s License. The more Ken watched, the more he wanted to learn about these elusive hunters of the sky. This year, Ken started his company, Wise Owl Ed, which holds classes & presentations for individual parties, corporations and various organizations. He is a Master Falconer, who has worked with great horned owls, Cooper’s hawks, Peregrine falcons, American kestrels, ferruginous hawks, and many other species of birds of prey.

Today, Ken owns a Harris’ hawk named TJ, and Eurasian Eagle owl named Ed. His success with training birds of prey has led to world recognition as a man who “talks to the raptors.” Many residents in Huntington Beach and surrounding cities recognize the man who continues to walk with his birds at Huntington Beach’s Surf City Walk every Tuesday night. Ken allows participants to get up close and personal with TJ & Ed, during the classes he holds through the Huntington Sands.

Ken believes that the two most important issues facing humankind today are: 1) Educating children and 2) Caring for the environment. These are the cornerstones of his work. During Ken’s classes, students and audiences are spellbound as he allows his birds to fly free, whether it be outside or in the classroom. He enjoys allowing participants to hold, feed and get photos of the birds. But the best part is when participants learn how and why birds of prey are in our history and daily lives, and the appreciation they’ll have for raptors after just one of Ken’s presentations!
