‘Eaters’ Johnson shares weekly Big West honor

UC Irvine sophomore driver Brandon Johnson is one of three players named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week in men’s water polo.

Johnson tied his career high with six goals each in a 12-9 win over Long Beach State on Oct. 22 and a 13-8 win over Concordia Friday.

He leads the Anteaters with 52 goals in 17 games. UCI (9-8), which has won seven of its last eight games, travels to second-ranked Stanford Saturday for an 11 a.m. MPSF game.

Johnson shared the weekly honor with UCLA’s Krsto Sbutega and USC’s Matt Sagehorn.
