The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Division Oilers closed out their regular season Saturday by posting their third straight victory, this one a 24-18 come-from-behind win at Garden Grove in Jr. All-American Football action.

The Oilers opened up the scoring with an 80-yard touchdown run by Mo Barber in the first quarter but later found themselves trailing, 18-8, heading into the fourth quarter.

Huntington began its rally when quarterback Nolan Winks connected with receiver Trevor Diehl for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The Oilers regained the lead for good when Barber scored on another long run, this one from 50 yards out.

The Oilers travel to Los Angeles on Saturday for a first-round playoff game against the Norwalk Saints at Fremont High.

Cheerleading

The Huntington Beach Oilers Pee Wee Division and Clinic cheer teams both took first place honors at the Orange County Jr. All-American Football Cheer competition Oct. 19.

Mighty Mite Division

Huntington 20, Santa Margarita 12: Huntington ended its regular season with a victory over the Eagles.

Quarterback Nolan Funke, Kyle Drinnon, Connor Sandford, Jake Reidel, Irvin Mataia and Bradford Fuiava paved the way on offense for the Chargers and Willie Earthman had a fumble recovery on defense.

Huntington, which finished the regular season among the top four teams in a 33-team Mighty Mite division of the Orange Empire Conference, next faces the undefeated Yorba Linda Titans at noon Saturday in the Mighty Mite bowl game in Garden Grove.

Jr. Mighty Mite Division

Huntington 35, Tustin 12: Despite not having the services of players Landon Overturf, Zakary Grove and Luke Dobson, host Huntington still rolled up four first-half touchdowns and went on to down the Black Cobras on Saturday for their third straight victory.

Miles McCord scored three touchdowns and added two conversions and Nicholas Upstill scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak and also provided a pair of conversion points. Cameron Mase rushed for a touchdown in the second half and Orion Garza added the extra point.

Junior Pee Wee Division

Huntington 26, La Mirada 0: The Green Chargers used big second and fourth quarter efforts to blank the visiting Matadores on Saturday.

Quarterback Keith McCord scored two rushing touchdowns and also passed for two scores, one to Alec Lowman and another to Danny Cassaro.

McCord and Cole Hendzel both also had interceptions on defense and Hunter Simmons added a fumble recovery for the Green Chargers.

Coach John Siebel’s Chargers play their final pre-bowl game of the season Saturday against the Fullerton Titans in Brea.

Jr. Midget Division

Huntington 31, Santa Margarita 0: The Green Chargers remained undefeated by rolling the Silver Mustangs in a first-round playoff game Saturday.

Jake Dailey, Tyler MacLeod, Steele Escobedo, Sam Doxakis, Jake Arledge, Darin Preece, Steven Tovatt, Trevor Borkowski and Vinnie Dugard-Lopiccolo all contributed multiple sacks.

Preece and Treavon Coley forced fumbles, Peter Russo had a fumble recovery and Andrew Bogard intercepted two passes.

Offensively, Coley and Brett Adams each had two touchdowns, MacLeod rushed for another score and Arledge had a conversion run.

Adams rushed for a season-high 150 yards and Russo and Aaron Vargas each rushed for more than 75 yards.

Huntington will face either Yorba Linda or Santa Ana in a second-round playoff game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Brookhurst Park in Anaheim.

Green Chargers cheerleaders take honors: With the undefeated Green Chargers football team present in support, the Huntington Jr. Midget Green cheerleaders captured first place in their division Saturday at the Orange Empire Conference competition.

It was the first cheer competition of the season for the squad.

The Jr. Midget Green cheerleaders joined the Challenger, Mighty Mite and Jr. Pee Wee squads in winning division competitions Saturday.

The Midget Division and Jr. Midget Division teams both captured second place in their respective divisions.
