Charity golf event today

Former Corona del Mar High boys’ basketball star Markus Muller-Stach is hosting Edith’s second annual Charity Golf Classic today at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda.

The event, in honor of Muller-Stach’s late mother, Edith, who died in 2007, raises money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Edith Muller-Stach, who suffered many medical hardships due to diabetes, was known for her support of youth sports in Newport Beach and Corona del Mar. She served 20 years as a volunteer administrator for Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football.

Last year’s event raised more than $41,000 for the JDRF.

This year’s tournament begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled for noon. Dinner and the awards presentation is scheduled for 5 p.m.
