SANTA CLARITA — Freshman midfielder Gabriela Valles scored on a penalty kick, but the Lions lost in the quarterfinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday.

Valles tied the match in the 71st minute.

The Lions allowed Katie McMannis to score the game-winner for The Master’s on a rebound off the left post in the 91st minute.

The goal eliminated Vanguard (9-5-3) from the tournament.

Vanguard goalkeeper Jillian Foss made four saves.

The Lions entered the game fresh off a 3-1 upset of Azusa Pacific, which was ranked No. 3, on Saturday.

SANTA CLARITA — Junior outside hitter Kelsey Wirt finished with 13 kills, eight digs and one block in the Lions’ 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday.

Senior middle blocker Shardai Sublett had nine kills for Vanguard (15-7, 10-7 in conference).

Alexandra Griffiths led the Lions with 16 digs.
