Interfaith Council Thanksgiving service

The second annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service, sponsored by the Laguna Beach Interfaith Council, will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 at Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive.

All residents of the Laguna Beach community are cordially invited to join together as we give thanks for our many blessings. The service will be lead by Rev. BJ Beu, new senior pastor of Neighborhood Congregational Church, with the participation of leaders from other local congregations.

Attendees are asked to bring an offering of canned goods to be donated to the Laguna Relief and Resource Center. For information, contact the church at (949) 494-8061.

Sock hop to raise money for church

The Neighborhood Congregational Church will host a Sock Hop featuring the renown musicians of LJQ, Laguna Jazz Quintet at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive.

Community members are invited to kick off their shoes, put on socks, and dance to standards from “The Great American Songbook,” including the Lindy, fox trot, jitterbug and waltz.

“We’re hosting a dance to the music before the twist “” before people started dancing apart, when they moved to lovely music in each others’ arms,” said drummer Tom Morey.

Bill Tannerbring, who played vibes and organ with Peggy Lee, will be on piano.

On guitar will be Ron Cook, who played with Sammy Davis Jr., Buddy Rich and Pat Boone. Gary Hogan will play trumpet and Mike Devellis the tenor sax.

Elizabeth Lamars will be on vocals, Nils Anderson on bass, Bob Adams on trombone along with surprise guest stars.

Proceeds from the dance will go to the Neighborhood Congregational Church Piano Fund. The cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple and leave your shoes at the door.
