Orange Coast League finals

LAGUNA BEACH — Estancia senior Ellie Edles defeated Laguna Beach’s Alex Tachovsky, 6-4, 6-3, helping her win the singles title for second straight year Thursday.

Edles played Tachovsky for the first time. In the semis, Edles beat Claire Jaeger of Laguna Beach, 6-0, 6-0.

Estancia’s doubles teams finished third and fourth.

Jennifer Johnston and Misha Brown beat Alex Payzant and Erin Rodman, 7-5, 6-3, in the third-place match.

Estancia learns of its opening-round draw in the playoffs when the pairings for the CIF Southern Section Division I tournament are released Monday. Edles advances to the individual tournament, scheduled Nov. 22.

Pacific Coast League finals

IRVINE — Corona del Mar’s Karen Ishii and Kelli Feeley upset teammates Lindsay Zotovich and Danielle Kaiden for the doubles title, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, Thursday at Beckman.

CdM junior Melissa Matsuoka lost to Beckman’s Megan Henegan, 6-2, 6-4, in the singles title match. CdM’s Katelyn Nguyen and Paige Polizois defeated University’s Megan Miller and Kyra Scott, 8-3, for third place in doubles.

Academy League finals

NEWPORT BEACH — Top-seeded Sage Hill School junior Julia Blakeley won the singles crown, while the Lightning duo of Isa-Marie Taskinen and Rian Billingsley finished runner-up in doubles Thursday at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

Blakeley defeated Tiffany Cheng of St. Margaret’s, 6-1, 6-0, in the final, dropping the only game all season against an Academy League foe.

Taskinen, a senior, and Billingsley, a freshman, the No. 4 seed, upset top-seeded Allie Davis and Mary Anne Walsh of St. Margaret’s, 7-5, 6-1, in the semifinals, before falling to the Tartans’ Hayley Miller and Hannah Hess, 6-2, 6-1, in the final.

Sage sophomore Devyn Billingsley and junior Dominique Moore beat Davis-Walsh, 8-6, in the third-place match.

Sage senior Jaclyn Smrecek was defeated by Chang, 6-2, 6-3, in the singles semifinals, then Smrecek dropped the third-place match, 8-6, to Melanie Hess of St. Margaret’s.

Sage seniors Laney Tucker and Sarah Choi fell in the doubles quarterfinals.

Blakeley and the tandem of Taskinen and Rian Billingsley advance to the CIF individual tournament that begins Nov. 21 at a site to be determined.

Sunset League finals

SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor’s doubles team of Natalie Small and Jeanne Frei finished third Thursday.

Small and Frei defeated a Fountain Valley team, 6-0, 2-6, 10-4, in the third-place match.

The Sailors learn of their opening-round draw Monday, when the playoff pairing for the CIF Southern Section Division I tournament are released.

CIF individuals

POMONA — Newport Harbor High junior Lauren Draganza shot three-over-par 75 Thursday at Mountain Meadows Golf Course to advance to the WSCGA regional championship Nov. 17 at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside.

Senior Tiffany Kane (84) did not advance.

Fountain Valley

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior outside hitter Mary Buckingham finished with nine kills and three service aces as the Sailors won, 25-16, 25-6, 25-9, closing out Sunset League play in second place Thursday.

Senior Katie Lawler had five kills and three aces for Newport Harbor (21-7, 8-2 in league), ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division I-AA.

Alice Cope, who has verbally committed to Cornell, contributed five kills, five digs and one ace. Carly Cotton had five kills, two digs and one ace.
