The Lucky Charms opened up a three-goal lead on the Soccer Rockers in their AYSO Region 56 girls’ Under-9 division match Saturday, but then had to score the game’s final goal to claim a 4-3 victory.

That 3-0 lead was established in the first half with two goals from Gretchen Kirkreit, and another by Lauren Schuck.

The Soccer Rockers staged a big second half comeback to tie the score. Jessica Ruggiero posted two goals in the third quarter and then went on to record a hat trick by scoring another goal in the fourth quarter that drew her team into a 3-3 tie in the closing minutes.

Both Soccer Rocker goalie Madison Reed and Lucky Charms keeper Vivian Cronk were able to stop shots down the stretch, but the Lucky Charms were able to score the winning goal when a power shot by Kirkreit that was partially stopped by a diving Reed still had enough momentum to cross into the goal.
