Seaview Little League Gators win District 62 tournament

The Seaview Little League “Gators” won the District 62 Junior Division Tournament of Champions, defeating Westminster in a hard-fought, nine-inning battle, 12-11.

With the score tied 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth, Connor Ahern drove a ball in the right-center field gap that scored Max Mayer from second base for the win. The lead changed hands throughout the game. Westminster jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Seaview Gators came back to take the lead in the 4th inning. Seaview ace, Jacob Rushing, pitched a strong 5 innings, provided several key hits, and stole 6 bases. Relief pitcher Brian McCoy threw one inning, and Erik McCoy pitched the final 3 innings to earn the win.

Leadoff hitter Max Mayer scored 5 runs, and Kyle Curtis, Colin Mahaffy, John Benvenuti and Brad Owen contributed key hits. Special pinch runner, Miles Young, used his speed to contribute to the total run count. James Wynder scored a run and made a key catch late in the game. Jason Austin and Jacob Hauser helped solidify the defense.
