Man dies after driving into palm tree in median

A Huntington Beach man died after his car struck a median palm tree.

Bryan Jones, 39, was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m. Nov. 13 on Goldenwest Street near Ernest Avenue.

About 7:30 p.m., Huntington Beach police responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. The vehicle was described as a green Toyota Paseo traveling southbound on Goldenwest in the area of Ellis.

Responding police units were in the area when the Toyota, driven by Jones, swerved toward the center median of Goldenwest at Ernest. Jones then crashed into a center median palm tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. Witnesses are asked to call the Huntington Beach Police Department Traffic Bureau at (714) 536-5670.
