CDM PLAYS SATURDAY

The Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team will face top-seeded Redlands East Valley for the championship of CIF Southern Section Division II-AA Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Cypress College’s gym No. 2.

The Sea Kings (21-7), the Pacific Coast League champions, will be trying to capture their first CIF title since 2004. They lost in the finals two years ago and reached the semifinals last year. CdM defeated PCL foe Beckman in five games Tuesday to advance to the CIF title match.

Redlands East Valley, the Citrus Belt League champion, beat Bishop Montgomery in four games to reach Saturday’s final.

KRIKORIAN A TERP

Costa Mesa High senior Ally Krikorian recently signed a national letter of intent to compete in gymnastics at University of Maryland.

Krikorian, who is also a track and field athlete and cheerleader at Costa Mesa, has been competing for Wildfire Gymnastics in Tustin. She earned fourth place in the vault and balance beam in the 20089 Junior Olympics National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla.

She also finished 23rd in the all-around.

Krikorian, who carries a 3.6 grade point average, is considering majoring in criminology and criminal justice while at Maryland.

PONY SIGN-UPS

The Costa Mesa Pony league will hold sign-ups for the spring 2009 season on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Costa Mesa High.

The Pony Division is for baseball players who are 13 and 14 years old. Fees are $185 per player.

Tryouts for the spring 2009 season wil be held Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Costa Mesa High’s freshman diamond.
