IRVINE — Shannan Homan recorded a career-high 16 kills and Devon Sutherland picked up a career-high 31 digs to lead the Anteaters to a 27-29, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13, 15-10 Big West Conference win Friday night.

Lauren Kellerman tied for the match-high with 19 kills.

Kari Pestolesi had 17 kills and 28 digs, while Alexandra Filkins also added a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Setter Taryn Robertson handed out a season-high 59 assists while delivering four block assists, including one solo stuff for UCI (16-12, 11-4 in conference).

The Anteaters remain tied for second with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The teams play tonight at 7 at UCI to conclude the conference season.

COSTA MESA — Greg Scott had 15 points and 11 assists, Elvis Whitelow added 13 and Dennis Heenan had eight points and 11 rebounds to lead the host Lions in the nonconference clash Friday night.

Vanguard (1-3) held the visitors (0-6) to 29.2% shooting from the field (19 for 65).

LOS ANGELES — The Mustangs (11-5-6) advanced Friday with a goal in the 34th minute and will face UC Irvine in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Tuesday at 7 p.m. at UCI.

UCI, the Big West Conference regular-season and tournament champion, tied the Mustangs, 1-1, in their conference meeting Oct. 22 at Cal Poly.
