National Philanthropy Day Orange County 2008 nets $40,000

ORANGE COUNTY, CA --750 attendees helped net $40,000 for the 23nd Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel ballroom.

Local nonprofit organizations submitted over 130 nominations as a committee of 40 reviewed nominations and choose the Outstanding Honoree in each of the eight categories to receive a Spirit of Philanthropy Award in the form of a crystal heart-shaped obelisk.

Top Honorees Robert and margaret Sprague were given a standing ovation after their acceptance speech.

ABOUT NPD: National Philanthropy Day is an official day to publicly recognize philanthropists, volunteers and donors who give their “time, talent and treasure”. The celebration is observed in more than 100 North American cities each November and was founded by local OC resident Doug Freeman.

The event was sponsored by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Orange County Register. All money raised from the awards luncheon supports the AFP Orange County chapter which uses funds for programs, education and training of its members while promoting advocacy and leadership to advance philanthropy.
