And then there was one.

Los Amigos High will carry the local banner into the second week of the CIF Southern Section football playoffs Friday when the Lobos host Mayfair of Lakewood.

The second-round Southern Division playoff game will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Garden Grove High.

Los Amigos was the only team among four local schools to survive the opening week of postseason play last week, beating Segerstrom, 40-37, Friday. The Lobos pulled out the victory when quarterback Jose Gonzalez teamed with Rafat Khalil on a 27-yard touchdown pass in the final minutes.

Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Brethren Christian all had their seasons come to an end last week with first-round defeats.

Huntington suffered a 45-19 loss Nov. 20 to two-time Southwest Conference champion El Dorado. The Golden Hawks, tri-champions of the Century League, scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull away to the win.

Oilers’ quarterback Sean Guite threw for 346 yards with a one-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Romo. Kendall Ivey rushed for a touchdown and Eric Chan kicked a 33-yard field goal.

Huntington, which finished in third place in the Sea View League, ended its season at 5-6.

Fountain Valley couldn’t get its running game in gear and was subdued by a tough Orange Lutheran defense, which posted a shutout as the Barons went down, 28-0, Friday, in a first-round Pac-5 Division game against the tri-champion of the Trinity League.

Fountain Valley, which finished in a five-way tie for the Sunset League title and was the league’s No. 2 playoff representative, finished 7-4.

“Our defense did a really great job in the first half to keep us in the game, but we just couldn’t get our offense untracked,” Fountain Valley Coach John Shipp said. “We never really were able to set up our running game, which has been our bread-and-butter this year and has gotten us this far. But tonight, we couldn’t get anything going. You have to give their defense credit for shutting us down.”

We have a top-notch group of guys who are a class act and I’m sorry to see it end this way for them. The group I really feel for is our seniors. They were a great class.”

Brethren Christian was shown the exit from the East Valley Division playoffs by host Twentynine Palms Friday.

The Warriors trailed, 35-0, after one quarter and 56-0 at the half, and lost, 63-22, to the Wildcats. Brethren Christian quarterback Brad Hess threw for 272 yards and receiver Jeremiah Bell had seven receptions total 165 yards with two scores.

The Warriors, the No. 2 team out of the Academy League, closed out their campaign at 4-7.
