CIF Masters Tournament

SANTA ANA — Newport Harbor High and Corona del Mar will meet in a fifth-place semifinal after the teams went 1-1 at Mater Dei Friday.

Newport Harbor opened the tournament with a 18-6 win against Riverside. Jack Yeager led the Sailors (22-9) with four goals. Jordan McLaren, Matt Russell and Zach Lucas scored three goals each. Lucas also had five steals.

Newport Harbor, the No. 6 seed, then lost to No. 3-seeded Mater Dei, 6-3. Lucas, Yeager and Andy Hayes scored one goal each.

The Sea Kings (19-11) beat Montebello, 11-8, in the first round. Max Bergeson led No. 7-seeded CdM with four goals and Lucas Reynolds added three. CdM goalie Isle Anderson recorded 13 saves.

El Toro, the No. 2 seed, defeated CdM, 18-6, in a quarterfinal. Reynolds and Chase Watson scored two goals each.

The Sea Kings play against the Sailors today at noon at Newport Harbor. CdM beat its Back Bay rival, 10-8, Oct. 25, for the first time in Coach Barry O’Dea’s four years as the Sea Kings’ coach. Newport Harbor scored two wins against the Sea Kings earlier this season in other tournaments.

The winner will play at 5 p.m. The loser will play for seventh place at 4 p.m.
