CHENEY, Wash. — The host Eagles made a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer to erase the Anteaters’ 31-29 lead, then dominated the second half of the nonconference game Sunday night.

Senior guard Brett Lauer, making his first start of the season, was five of six from three-point range to pace the Anteaters (0-5) with 16 points.

Senior Kevin Bland, who started at center, had 13 points and 11 rebounds in 35 minutes, before fouling out.

Freshman Eric Wise and junior Michael Hunter added 13 points apiece for UCI, which visits former Big West Conference rival Utah State tonight at 6:05 in Logan.

It’s only the second time UCI has opened the season 0-5, the first since the 1-25 campaign in 1996-97.

SAN DIEGO — Junior guard Mary Has had 19 points to lead three Anteaters in double figures in the nonconference road upset Sunday.

UCI (2-2) played only six players, including junior forward Kelly Cochran, who had nine points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench in her season debut. Cochran missed the first three games recovering from knee surgery.

Sophomore Rebecca Maessen had 14 points and six boards, while junior Keyonna Johnson had 10 points and five assists for the winners.

USD, held to 32.2% field-goal shooting, fell to 4-4.

MALIBU — The Anteaters led, 5-3, at halftime, but needed junior Greg Enloe’s goal with 51 seconds left in regulation to force two three-minute overtime periods in the fifth-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament Sunday at Pepperdine.

The Gauchos ( 17-11) scored the only two overtime goals.

UCI finishes the season 11-15.
