SANTA ANA — Senior Ayla Medina had a goal and an assist to help the Mustangs overcome a 1-0 deficit in their season opener Tuesday.

Senior Brooke Urmson, sophomore Alex Krohnfeldt and junior Natalie Argueta scored one goal each for the Mustangs, while junior Danielle Young and senior Bree Arellano had one assist each. Costa Mesa senior goalie Jessica Rubright had five saves.

The Mustangs play host to Los Amigos today at 4:45 p.m. at Estancia High.

CORONA DELMAR — Goalie Sarah Cox recorded three saves for the Sea Kings in their season opener Tuesday.

Corona del Mar, ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division II, will begin play in the Ocean View tournament Friday. Sea Kings Coach Bryan Middleton said he was pleased with his team’s effort against the Monarchs, ranked No. 4 in CIF Division I.

“This shows our strength this year,” Middleton said.

NEWPORT COAST — Goalie Hannah MacLeod recorded seven saves for the Lightning in their season opener Tuesday.

Sage Hill, ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division VI, will play host to Costa Mesa Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior guard Erika Soto had a team-high 12 points to lift the Eagles to their second pool-play win in the Corona del Mar/Estancia Tournament at CdM High.

Brenda Soto, Kelsey Asher and Kassie Stratton had seven points each for Estancia (2-0), which plays Los Amigos in its pool-play finale on Thursday.

ALISO VIEJO — Seniors Eric Nordstrom and Cameron Rausch, as well as junior Rene Escalero pinned their opponents to account for the visiting Sailors’ three wins in the nonleague dual match to open the season Tuesday.

Nordstrom pinned Darron Combs in 3:29 to win the 160-pound match, while Escalero stuck Raul Montoya in 1:15 at 215 pounds.

Rausch pinned heavyweight foe Sam Cabrie in 3:01 for Newport Harbor, which will co-host the Battle by the Bay Tournament this weekend at Corona del Mar High.
