NAIA Championships
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Shardai Sublett recorded 14 kills to lead Vanguard University to a 28-26, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 pool-play victory over Bellevue University at the Tyson Events Center Wednesday.
Michal Shortridge added 12 kills and Jamie Heenan contributed 10 for the Lions. Setter Meghan Walsh amassed 42 assists and also had 15 digs. Alexandra Griffiths led Vanguard with 18 digs.
The Lions (17-11), are making their first appearance in the NAIA Championships, will need to win today against Doane to advance to bracket play in the tournament. Bellevue dropped to 31-5.
Vanguard is 1-1 in pool play. The Lions lost to Lindenwood in four games Tuesday. Lindenwood (36-8) won, 19-25, 25-20, 30-28, 25-19. Heather DeJongh led the Lions with 16 kills

SACRAMENTO — Kelly Cochran came off the bench to lead the Anteaters with 15 points in the nonconference game Wednesday.
Mary Has added 12 points and Kirian Ishizaki had 10 points and a team-high six assists for UCI (3-2), which held off the Hornets down the stretch for the win.
