Man posts bail, is served with warrant
What a buzz kill.
The same day a Costa Mesa man posted bail and was released from jail, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were serving a search warrant at a home they say he rented by Big Bear Lake.
Officials said police found about 150 marijuana plants and four pounds of processed marijuana in the lakeside home of Todd Messick, 44, Wednesday, thanks to a tip by Costa Mesa police.
Costa Mesa police said it all started in November, when they were called to a home in the 1700 block of Whittier Avenue to respond to a disturbance.
While there, officers said there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the house, Sgt. Bryan Glass said.
Officers informed narcotics detectives, who investigated the home until they served a search warrant Tuesday.
Police found more than 100 marijuana plants there, Glass said. The same day, investigators called San Bernardino authorities and said they believed Messick rented a home up there, officials said.
That led to Wednesday’s raid.
Criminal charges are pending against Messick in both counties, officials said. When a suspect is released on bail, prosecutors have more time to investigate the case before filing charges.
Orange County Sheriffs Department records show that Messick was released from jail Wednesday night.
It does not appear he’s been arrested by San Bernardino authorities, officials there said.
