Beach Bash figures to be big hit again

The 2008 Beach Bash prep wrestling tournament begins Friday at the Edison High gymnasium.

Thirty-nine teams are schedule to take to the mat, beginning with action at 2 p.m. Friday. The tournament continues at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs throughout the day. The schools competing in the event are local teams Edison, Huntington Beach, Marina and Ocean View, and Arroyo Valley, Bakersfield, Brawley, Buena Park, Cal High, Calvary Chapel (Downey), Canyon, Carter Wilmer, Central Union, Century, Channel Islands, Crespi, Cypress, Downey, El Modena, Escondido, Esperanza, Hesperia, Hueneme, La Serna, Millikan, Norwalk, Orange Lutheran, Palm Desert, Palo Verde, Redwood, Righetti, Santa Ana, Santa Fe, Santa Margarita, Santiago (Corona), South Hills, St. John Bosco, Torrey Pines and Westview.

The tournament will have a new team champion as reigning champ Poway isn’t in the tournament field. Bakersfield finished second and Millikan third in the team standings a year ago.
