Board of water district names its new president

The youngest member of the Mesa Consolidated Water District board, Shawn Dewane, has been named board president.

He was unanimously elected to his first term as president by his fellow board members, while three-time president Fred Bockmiller was elected first vice president.

Dewane is up for reelection in 2010, while Bockmiller ran unopposed in November to keep his seat.

As president, Dewane will preside over meetings of the board, which decides the price of tap water in Costa Mesa and makes other water policy decisions.

His predecessor, James Atkinson, continues to serve on the board.
