Laguna Beach police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man suspected of stealing a wallet from a purse at a restaurant.

The incident occurred Dec. 9 when the victim went to dinner at Ti Amo Restaurant in South Laguna, according to Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jason Kravetz. She left her purse at the table and went outside about 10 minutes to smoke a cigarette with her friend. They were at the restaurant celebrating the victims’ birthday, Kravetz said.

While outside, videotape captured a man taking the victims’ wallet from her purse. He then hid it under his shirt and left the restaurant, commenting to the victim about how nice the restaurant treated them.

Before the victim could report the credit cards as stolen, the suspect allegedly went on a shopping spree in the San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente areas. He visited at least eight different gas stations and grocery stores and allegedly charged in excess of $2,000 in merchandise to the victim’s credit cards.

If anyone recognizes this person, they are urged to call the Investigative Unit at (949) 497-0307.
