Get hooked on a knit and purl for those in need

First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa is getting together a group to knit and crochet garments for newborns and cancer patients at local hospitals.

The organizer, Lorraine Armata, got the idea from a church in Riverside that she used to attend, and is hoping to have the first group meeting after the New Year.

Many people knit and crochet for pleasure, and donating the handiwork to those in need is a good way for them to use their talents for a charitable purpose, Armata said.

The group will meet at the church at 420 W. 19th St. beginning in January.

The dates and times have not been set yet.
