Sonora performance a ‘major success’

When Sonora Elementary students gathered for their annual holiday performance, they had a lot more to show off than just their angelic little voices.

This year, all sorts of musical instruments shared the bill, thanks to a new offering at the school: Beginning Band, a class for older students.

Dozens of Sonora kids had some of their first exposure to musical instruments as part of the class, faculty said.

It was the first year of the program and a major success, school Principal Christine Anderson said.

“They’ve only been doing this since October,” Anderson said.

“They’ve done great,” said Linda Gordon, the music teacher for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Sonora.

“They’re all very enthusiastic, and it’s especially good work for a first semester.”
