Anteaters’ Lauer earns weekly Big West honor

UC Irvine senior Brett Lauer has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

Lauer, a 6-foot-1 guard, scored a career-high 27 points, 22 in the first half, to help the Anteaters defeat visiting Cal State Fullerton, 78-74, in overtime of their conference opener Saturday.

Lauer made nine of 14 field-goal attempts, including seven of 12 from three-point range. He is shooting 49.1% from three-point range this season with 27 three-pointers.

UCI (3-10, 1-0 in conference), returns to Big West action Thursday at UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m.
