RIVERSIDE — The sixth-ranked Anteaters opened the season with a 30-26, 30-27, 30-23 nonconference win Wednesday.

All-American Jon Steller led UCI with 14 kills followed by senior Taylor Wilson with 11 kills. Steller and Wilson each had a team-high four digs. Senior setter Nick Goldsbrough-Reardon tallied 19 assists and an ace in his Anteater debut. Junior Cole Reinholm had eight kills and joined Kevin Wynne and Bryan Simmons with two blocks each.

The Anteaters will participate in the 45th annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Tournament Friday and Saturday in Santa Barbara. UCI will open against No. 4-ranked Long Beach State Friday at 1 p.m.
