UCI adds seven recruits in women’s water polo

Seven student-athletes have signed a national letter of intent to play women’s water polo at UC Irvine, Anteaters Coach Dan Klatt announced.

They will enroll at UCI in fall of 2009 and be eligible to compete in the 2010 season.

Jessy Cardey is a three-time All-Ivy League player at Riverside Poly High. She has been named All-CIF Southern Section Division III in each of her first three seasons at Poly. Cardey was named first-team all-county by the Riverside Press Enterprise in her first three seasons.

Devin Crothers is a two-time All-Ivy League pick in water polo and a three-time all-league choice in swimming at Riverside Poly. She was named third-team All-CIF in water polo in 2008. She helped the Bears win the 2008 CIF Southern Section Division II championship team and was the 2008 Ivy League champion in the 50-yard freestyle.

Katie Groff is a four-year varsity water polo player and swimmer at Foothill High. She was the 2005 Junior Olympic All-American goalkeeper. Groff had been a field player, but will move back to goalie for her senior season.

Kelsey Klatt is a four-time All-CIF Central Section honoree at Sunnyside High. She has earned All-American honors in water polo and swimming while at Sunnyside. She represented the Fresno Dolphins in the 2008 U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Omaha.

Morgan McCardell was first-team All-Pacific View League in each of the last two seasons and first-team All-CIF as a junior at Rio Mesa High. She has been Co-MVP of the Rio Mesa swim team each of the past three seasons and holds four school records.

Tiffany Norys was named West Yosemite League MVP her senior year at El Diamante High. Norys led El Diamante to two CIF Central Section Division II championships and was named All-Valley twice including first-team honors as a senior.

Rebecca Voytilla was named first-team All-Valley as a senior at Buchanan High in Clovis. She was named Most Improved as a sophomore and a senior. She was awarded the Outstanding Player Award at the Sierra Shootout tournament this season.
