Principals from Newport-Mesa elementary, middle and high schools will begin meeting with district leaders today to discuss their school’s goals for the next school year and where they find room for improvement in the latest round of state test scores.

The meetings, open to the public, take place in the district’s headquarters, 2985 Bear St., Costa Mesa.

Up first at 1 p.m. today are principals in the district’s Estancia Zone, which includes Adams Elementary School and TeWinkle Middle School.

TeWinkle students successfully met federal testing standards set by No Child Left Behind last year, putting the school on the brink of shaking off its probationary status with a second successful year.

The school also showed a second strong year in California’s Academic Performance Index scores, climbing 38 points to 756 points.

A school has reached state standards when it eclipses 800 points.

Later in the afternoon, principals of the Newport Harbor High School area will present their plans for the next year.

Principals from Costa Mesa High School’s zone and Corona del Mar High School’s area are scheduled to present their goals Wednesday.
