Bergeson, Linden among locals selected All-CIF

Corona del Mar High junior Max Bergeson and Newport Harbor senior David Linden earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I honors in boys’ water polo from the Southern California Water Polo Coaches’ Assn.

Bergeson, the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year, finished with 81 goals, 53 assists and 48 steals. The lefty, who was named the Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year, led the Sea Kings (20-12, 4-0 in league) to their 10th straight Pacific Coast League championship.

Linden, a first-team All-Sunset League selection, recorded 59 goals, 64 steals and 22 assists. The two-meter player helped the Sailors (23-10, 5-1 in league) to a second-place finish in league.

Locals making the second team were Newport Harbor juniors Zach Lucas and Jack Yeager and CdM seniors Lucas Reynolds and Brian Schiefer.

CdM senior Carter Taylor and Newport Harbor junior Matt Russell received third-team recognition.
