The Battle of the Bay is tonight.

Corona del Mar High plays host to both the girls’ and boys’ basketball games against Back Bay rival Newport Harbor. The girls’ game will be at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game at 7 p.m.

Both programs are experiencing different seasons.

On the girls’ side, CdM is off to a 17-4 start, one of its finest seasons. The Sailors are struggling at 6-14. Players to watch in this game are CdM sophomore guard Kayla Marolt and Newport Harbor junior forward Katey Thompson.

Last season, Newport Harbor won the girls’ game, 43-42, on Corinne Schnieders’ free throw with 4.9 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Sea Kings have taken the last two boys’ games against the Sailors.

CdM (10-11) looks to build off Friday’s Pacific Coast League home game against Beckman. The Sea Kings had dropped three straight close games until beating Beckman, 61-52.

The Sailors (4-15) on Friday fell in a Sunset League home game to Fountain Valley, 34-31, extending their losing streak to seven games.

Senior guard Sean Donovan leads CdM as he’s averaging around 20 points per game.

Newport Harbor junior guard Chris Anderson averages about 10 points per game.
