NEWPORT BEACH — Senior striker Evan Walker stole a pass, dribbled past defenders, then drilled a 10-yard shot into upper-near corner of the net in the 50th minute to provide the difference in the Sailors’ Sunset League home game Monday.

Junior goalkeeper Kyle Evans made seven saves to preserve the shutout for the hosts (8-6-3, 2-3-1 in league), who moved into third place with the victory.

Sailors Coach Mike Ditta said Evans and the Tars withstood a late barrage by the Barons.

The win avenged a 3-2 overtime loss to the Barons (3-2 in league) in the first round of Sunset League play Jan. 7.

Newport Harbor visits league-leading Los Alamitos Friday at 3 p.m. at Laurel School.
