Police arrested five people Wednesday on suspicion of robbing a man at knife point outside a strip mall on Bristol Street in Costa Mesa.

The victim said three or four people attacked him to steal his laptop and wallet before driving away, police said.

When police pulled over a car matching the victim’s description, two of the six passengers tried to flee, said Sgt. Bryan Glass.

Jose Duran, 21, Garden Grove, was hospitalized after breaking his leg while trying to flee, police said. Duran fell into a drainage ditch and is in custody, police said.

The other suspect who ran remains uncaught, Glass said, while the other four suspects stayed in the car and were arrested.

Two of the suspects arrested were Alam Encinas, 27, and Denise Esquivel, 20, both of Santa Ana, police said. The other two are minors.
