Man said he wanted to jump off Heisler Park cliff

A 34-year-old man was taken to the hospital at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 21 after telling police he had tried to kill himself by jumping off a cliff in the 300 block of Cliff Drive at Heisler Park, Sgt. Jason Kravetz said. The man, who police said was very intoxicated, said he had passed out before taking the jump.

Laguna Beach police detectives tracked a San Juan Capistrano man to Huntington Beach at 6:50 p.m. Jan. 22 where they arrested him on two warrants involving alleged possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, Kravetz said.

Matthew Harrison, 39, was held without bail.

‘Jumper’ on roof was unconscious woman

Police were called to the roof of South Coast Medical’s parking structure at 11:27 p.m. Jan. 22 on the report of a person possibly trying to jump off the building, Kravetz said.

Police found an unconscious woman who had possibly overdosed. She was taken to the emergency room for treatment.

Mother arrested after near-collision with police

A 34-year-old Laguna Niguel mother was arrested on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment at 9:56 p.m. Jan. 23 after she nearly collided with a Laguna Beach police car at Laguna Street and South Coast Highway, Kravetz said.

The officer was driving westbound on Laguna Avenue through the intersection with South Coast Highway when he saw a Ford Explorer coming southbound, looking like it wasn’t going to stop, Kravetz said. As the officer braced for impact, the Explorer locked its tires and skidded to a stop.

The driver, Rebecca Marie Keller, who had her 4-year-old son in the vehicle, was taken into custody.

Traffic stop leads to man’s arrest on drug suspicion

A 33-year-old man was arrested on drug suspicion after police pulled him over on a routine traffic stop at Legion and Glenneyre streets at 11:12 p.m. Jan. 23, Kravetz said.

Police alleged they found methamphetamine in Robert Paul Landry’s car along with glass pipes used for smoking drugs. Landry was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and taken to Orange County Jail where he was held on $25,000 bail.

Man held after allegedly fighting with police

A Lake Forest man is facing a slew of charges after police discovered him sleeping on a mattress outside a home in the 500 block of Ramona Avenue at 2:44 a.m. Saturday, Kravetz said.

Maurice Cordell Fletcher, 34, who allegedly gave police a false name at first, said he had left a local bar and fell asleep on the mattress. The officer found three warrants for his arrest, including two for alleged failure to register as a sex offender.

When the officers tried to arrest him, they said, Fletcher took a swing at one of them and began to fight with the officers. The man faces additional charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest and providing a false name. He was held without bail.

Fisherman allegedly using mussels held on warrant

A fisherman who was stopped by police at 3:44 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Cliff Drive for allegedly gathering mussels for bait in violation of city laws was arrested when police discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for false registration of a vehicle, Kravetz said.

The suspect is identified as Jose Federico Ramirez, 34, of Downey.

Firewood theft leads to arrest of girls and woman

Two girls were arrested, and the adult woman with them also held, after the girls allegedly stole two bundles of firewood from the front of a grocery store in the 700 block of South Coast Highway at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Kravetz said.

The woman, Ashley Michelle Gollwitzer of Laguna Hills, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The girls’ names were not released because they are minors.

Girl accused of fleeing crash, driving intoxicated

A 17-year-old Laguna Beach girl was arrested on suspicion of DUI after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a wall at Three Arch Bay at 12:40 a.m. Monday, Kravetz said.

The driver was seen running away from the crash. Police discovered the vehicle, a black VW Tuareg, was registered to a home in the area. Police then met with the girl’s father, who said his 17-year-old daughter had been the driver. She was taken into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI.

The girl’s name was not released because she is a minor.
