MORENO VALLEY — Junior Tucker Armstrong, a recent transfer to Corona del Mar High, won the 135-pound championship at Canyon Springs Saturday.

Armstrong beat Poway’s Conrad Snell, 8-3, in the final. Snell recently placed second at the prestigious Five Counties meet at Fountain Valley High.

“A lot of coaches were looking at him,” CdM Coach Gary Almquist said of Armstrong, who made his CdM wrestling debut during the tournament and finished 4-0.

“He was a Division II state champion in Ohio as a sophomore. He came to us in December and he wanted to wrestle.”

MONTEBELLO — Senior Heather Van Hiel had two goals, five steals and two assists to lead the Sea Kings in the nonleague game.

CdM (19-1) is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I, while Montebello is ranked No. 2 in Division II.

CdM senior goalie Kate Baldoni had 12 saves.
