Nine area teams featured in latest CIF rankings

The Edison High girls’ basketball team and the Ocean View boys’ basketball team, are on the move.

The Chargers rose a spot in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division II-AA poll, going from fourth to third. They trail only top-ranked Brea Olinda and Buena, the latter of which jumped from fifth to second in the new rankings. Brea was No. 1 a week ago.

The Seahawks also moved up a spot, going from fourth to third in the boys’ Division IV-AA poll, which is still headed by Bishop Montgomery of Torrance.

Edison an Ocean View are two of nine local winter sports teams to be ranked this week.

In girls’ basketball, Marine is No. 8 in Division I-A and Edison is No. 7 in II-AA. In boys’ hoops, Marina and Huntington Beach are Nos. 4 and 5 respectively in Division II-A and Edison is No. 15.

In girls’ water polo, Edison is No. 6 in Division I and Fountain Valley’s wrestling team is No. 7 in Division I.
