Miss Huntington Beach 2009 crowned

As the new Miss Huntington Beach during the city’s centennial year, Kate Brewster will have her hands full.

Brewster, of Huntington Beach High School’s Academy of Performing Arts, was crowned Sunday afternoon during the annual competition, held at Old World Village. She will serve alongside her court: Chantelle Rueman (first runner-up); Samantha Bullat (second runner up); Emily Walker (third runner up); Kelsey Shulte (fourth runner up).

Brewster, 18, is a member of the Surf City Singers, and was honored Best Female Vocalist for the Performing Arts in 2008. She will initiate her platform, “Value of the Arts Enhancing General Education,” during her year of service. After graduating high school in June, she intents to pursue a bachelor’s in music.

“I have never been so proud of 13 girls before…they are all amazing,” said Pam Alagata, executive director of the Miss Huntington Beach Scholarship Pageant.
