Man robs hotel at gunpoint, flees on foot

Police are looking for a man who robbed a Costa Mesa motel at gunpoint Monday night.

Just before midnight, police said a masked man approached the front desk at the Sandpiper Motel, 1967 Newport Blvd. just off the 55 Freeway. He pulled out a revolver and demanded the cash from the register, Sgt. Bryan Glass said.

The motel employee gave the suspect the cash, and the man put it in his backpack and ran, Glass said. The robber was last seen running northbound on foot. No one was injured and police did not provide a detailed description of the suspect.
