‘Eaters sink Warriors

HONOLULU, Hawaii — The UC Irvine baseball team earned a pair of 5-4 victories in a nonconference doubleheader sweep over the Warriors at Hawaii’s Lee Murakami Stadium Saturday.

UCI (3-0), ranked No. 9 by Baseball America, rallied to win the second game, despite being outhit, 10-4, as senior Brock Bardeen earned his first collegiate pitching win in relief.

Junior Eric Pettis pitched a scoreless ninth inning in each game to collect two saves.

In the first game, UCI junior catcher Francis Larson was a single shy of the cycle, going three for four with two RBIs.

Junior pitcher Christian Bergman allowed one earned run and seven hits in eight innings to get the win in Game 1.

Junior second baseman Casey Stevenson had two hits and sophomore designated hitter Ryan Fisher drove in two runs for UCI in Game 1.

In the seven-inning Game 2, freshman third baseman DJ Crumlich drove in two runs, as three Hawaii errors led to two unearned runs.
