Sea Kings renew battle with visiting Canyon

Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer coach Bryan Middleton remembers what happened the last time the Sea Kings faced Canyon of Canyon Country.

In 2003, CdM lost, 3-2, in overtime in a CIF Southern Section Division II quarterfinal match that included a brawl with five minutes left in regulation.

Middleton, of course, is looking for a different outcome this year, as the Sea Kings (11-4-7) will play host to the Cowboys (14-4-2) in a second-round match today at 3 p.m.

The Sea Kings opened the playoffs with a 5-0 win over visiting Rowland Thursday and won the coin flip to have a home game today.

The winner of today’s match will advance to the quarterfinals Thursday and will face the winner of the match between Redlands and Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.
