Businesses invited to march in parade

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce is inviting its members to join the organization in marching in the March 7 Patriot’s Day Parade.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Laguna Beach High School, continues down Park Avenue, right on Glenneyre Street and right onto Forest Avenue, ending on Ocean Avenue at approximately 1 p.m.

The chamber is making an all-out effort to promote shopping in Laguna Beach, Executive Director Rose Hancock said at a Tuesday chamber luncheon.

“We want you to join us in the parade this year, and then we want people to stay in town after the parade to shop,” Hancock said. The chamber’s parade theme is “Lemonade Stand.” To find out more, call the Chamber at (949) 497-1018.

‘State of City’ address by mayor is Tuesday

Laguna Beach Mayor Kelly Boyd and city staff will present a “State of the City” program to the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Surf & Sand Resort.

Usage down, revenue up at credit meters

Recent revenue reports for the new credit card parking meters on Cliff Drive show that utilization is down 10% over the same periods during the prior two years, City Manager Ken Frank reported in his Feb. 13 weekly update.

Despite the decline in usage, the $2 per hour rate in this area resulted in a revenue increase of about 75%.

The total revenue in the area of 209 parking meters for the three month period from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31 was $116,000, which equates to about $6 per meter per day, Frank wrote.

Legacy Awards nominations sought

The Laguna Beach Seniors Center is asking for nominations for two Legacy Award honorees to be announced at the upcoming third annual Legacy Ball. The gala celebration will take place May 8 at [seven degrees].

Nominees should be local residents who have left a permanent “legacy” in Laguna Beach.

The honorees must be living at the time of nomination. Contact the Senior Center at (949) 497-2441, or e-mail lbs@lagunabeachseniors.org with your name and a maximum of 200 words about why your nominee is deserving of the award. Nominations must be received no later than March 13.

Dinner to feature program on Miller Garden

Eric Jessen will give a presentation on the history of the Hortense Miller Garden at the Monday meeting of the Laguna Canyon Conservancy, 6 p.m. at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

Dinner tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and may be paid at the door with prior reservations. No-host bar opens at 6 p.m., dinner served around 6:35 p.m.

Annual Literary Luncheon set for March 14

The 22nd annual Literary Luncheon, the Festival of Women Authors, will be presented by the American Assn. of University Women Laguna Beach Foundation from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 14 at the Surf and Sand Resort, 1555 S. Coast Hwy.

No reservations accepted after March 10.
