CdM, Sailors collect top seeds in Masters tourney

Corona del Mar High and Back Bay rival Newport Harbor are the No. 1 and No. 2 seed, respectively, in the 16-team CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament that begins Friday.

The Sea Kings (29-2), who were defeated by Dos Pueblos in the CIF Southern Section Division I final Saturday by Dos Pueblos, claimed the top seed when Dos Pueblos declined to participate.

Newport Harbor (23-7) was defeated in the section Division I semifinals by Dos Pueblos, 9-8, on Wednesday.

CdM will be the home team in its first-round game against No. 16-seeded Bonita, scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at El Toro High.

Newport Harbor opens Friday at 4 p.m. at home against Los Osos, the No. 15 seed.

The quarterfinals are Friday and the semifinals and finals are scheduled Saturday at El Toro.
