Vanguard’s Boyd pockets Player of Week accolade

Vanguard University sophomore Sarah Boyd was named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball.

Boyd, a 5-foot-4 point guard, totaled 27 points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals in the Lions’ wins over Westmont, Saturday, and Concordia, Feb. 24.

She made nine of 15 field-goal attempts (60%), including three of four from three-point range. She was also six for six from the foul line in the two games.

She had 19 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals in the 67-62 home win over Concordia.

Boyd and the No. 2-ranked Lions (26-3) won the GSAC regular-season title and open the eight-team conference tournament as the No. 1 seed tonight at 7:30 against visiting Fresno Pacific (13-14), the No. 8 seed.
