Sage’s Danner, Hembarsky highlight all-league team
Sage Hill School senior forward Tierney Danner and senior guard Morgan Hembarsky earned first-team All-Academy League recognition in girls’ basketball after helping the Lightning to a share of the league championship.
Sage Hill (16-9, 7-3 in league), which split the title with Whitney and St. Margaret’s, has won, or shared the league championship in three of the last four seasons.
Danner led the team with 14.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.9 blocks per game. Danner earned first-team honors for the third straight year. She recorded a dozen double-doubles this season.
Sage Hill Coach Lou Silverman said Danner set the program’s all-time scoring record, finishing with 1,200-plus points.
Hembarsky, a three-year starter, averaged 10 points and 3.3 assists per game. She made 42 three-pointers, including a single-game school-best seven threes against rival St. Margaret’s on Jan 9.
Senior forward Stephanie Garrison, junior forward Hannah Jeffrey and freshman guard Ava Soleimany were second-team selections.
For the second time in three seasons, Silverman was named the Academy League Coach of the Year.
St. Margaret’s Claire Hosinski was chosen as the Academy League Player of the Year.
