Newport Harbor High senior setter Arielle Lysacek has committed to play women’s volleyball at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro next season, said Coach Dan Glenn Thursday.

Lysacek, a first-team All-Sunset League pick, is the sixth Newport Harbor senior to sign with an NCAA Division I program this season.

“Never had that before,” said Glenn, in his 23rd year, who also has outside hitter Mary Buckingham going to UC Berkeley, outside hitter Katie Lawler to Loyola Marymount, middle blocker Alice Cope to Cornell, middle blocker Jennifer Palmquist to Princeton and defensive specialist Carly Cotton to Brown.

“This was the best senior class as far as depth.”

Lysacek helped the Sailors (24-8, 8-2 in league) to a second-place finish in the Sunset League and to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs in the fall.

In her first year as a varsity starter, Lysacek finished with 513 assists, 72 kills, 42 digs, 24 service aces and 13 blocks.
