Two Golden West students win scholarships

Golden West College honors students won two major awards on Saturday at the ninth annual Community College Research Conference at UCI.

The Golden West College Honors Program has taken top awards for abstracts four years in a row since the Outstanding Abstract Scholarship was established in 2006.

The $1,000 Megill Director’s Scholarship for outstanding scholarship and writing is the highest Honors Transfer Council of California award in the state.

Honors student Ryan Millett won this year for “Composed Images: Vincent van Gogh and Claude Debussy.”

Randall Deeb won a $500 Outstanding Abstract scholarship for his research leading to “The Crescent and the Cross: Muslim and Christian Beliefs in Literature.”

Honors student Mackenzie Powers was selected to debate the ecological and economic costs of “Going Green While in the Red” in the conference Issues Forum.
