Marina no match for Thousand Oaks

The Marina High boys’ basketball team fell at top-seeded Thousand Oaks, 89-57, in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA boys’ basketball playoffs Friday night.

Coach Roger Holmes said the No. 5-seeded Vikings were ahead, 16-5, in the first quarter, and only trailed by about 10 points at halftime.

“They came out in the second half and were hitting on everything, and we weren’t,” Holmes said.

Edison, which finished second in the Sunset League behind Los Alamitos, finished the year 23-7.

“It was a great year,” Holmes said. “Anybody that gets down to the final four, that’s a pretty good accomplishment.”
